Week 24 Antigone AP Prompt How should I write this? What are they talking about and what are they asking me to do?

The prompt Tiresias states the following Think: all men make mistakes, But a good man yields when he Knows his course is wrong, And repairs the evil: The only Crime is pride.

The Assignment Think about the implications of the quotation. Then write a carefully reasoned essay that explores the validity of the assertion, using examples from your reading, observation, or experience to develop your position

The Literal vs. The Abstract Is the question asking us to respond literally, or is it asking us to consider the ramifications of the information presented. This is extremely important. Often when we make mistakes during our essays, we confuse whether we should answer the question like we would if someone asked us ( literally) or if we should respond based on how this idea may affect society (abstract). Hint: Pride is an abstract concept

The Assignment Part 2 Let’s annotate the assignment as this will undoubtedly help us! Think ( let’s carefully consider) about the implications ( what are the good or bad consequences of the quote? how may the prompt may affect us.) of the quotation. Then write a carefully reasoned ( we must have support to prove our position) essay that explores the validity of the assertion (Do you believe this quote is logical? Why?), using examples ( just as you do with Précis, find examples from pieces that you have read, seen or experienced.) from your reading, observation, or experience to develop your position ( If we are asked about position, we know that this is an argument prompt.) The prompt is asking us to argue if we feel the quotation is logical or true or relevant to society.

The Hard Part is… Choosing your position. Once you decide whether you agree, disagree or want to qualify the assignment, you must then make sure that you have sources that will support your position. Additionally, remember to remain focused on your position. It is easy to get lost in your thoughts on essays like this. One suggestion to prevent this would be to outline your essay.

My Outline Introduction: Pride is the only Crime The admission of wrong to ourselves is a healing activity for both the person that has been wronged and the person that has committed the wrong. Swallowing our pride and accepting our negative behaviors is essential! Body I: What happens when people are too proud to admit their wrong The Crucible- Had Abigail admitted she was wrong she could have saved the lives of many in Salem. However, her desire to have John Proctor led to his and the deaths of many. Additionally, I would use a personal example where my pride cost me something great ( ex: my refusal to cut my hair cost me a job.) Body II: What happens when people admit their wrong Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent- This player killed his best friend while driving drunk. He immediately apologizes and accepts his punishment. By abandoning his pride, he allows the family to heal.

My Outline Part 2 Conclusion While removing our pride from situations does not bring things back to their original state, we all make mistakes so admitting and sincerely apologizing for these mistakesprovides closure and allows each of us to learn from our mistakes.
