Tomorrow

Introduction In this lesson, we consider various ways in which “tomorrow” is used in the Bible.

A Day of Boasting Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth (Prov. 27:1; cf. James 4:13-16).

A Day of Neglected Promises Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, and tomorrow I will give it,” when you have it with you (Prov. 3:28; cf. Deut. 24:12-15).

A Day of Aimlessness Instead (of repentance), there is gaiety and gladness, killing of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die” (Isa. 22:13; cf. 1 Cor. 15:29-34).

A Day of Excess “Come,” they say, “let us get wine, and let us drink heavily of strong drink; and tomorrow will be like today, only more so” (Isa. 56:12; cf. 5:18-23).

A Day of Planning And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My goal” (Luke 13:32; cf. John 17:1-5).

A Day of Plotting And he said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down tomorrow to the Council, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more thoroughly about him” (Acts 23:20; cf.; 9:23- 25).

A Day of Care So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matt. 6:34; cf. Col. 4:5-6).

A Day of Opportunity Then Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him” (Acts 25:22; cf. 26:1-29).

Conclusion Let us not delay fulfilling our duty toward God, hoping for a convenient season in the future (Acts 24:25; cf. Isa. 55:6-7). Behold, now is the acceptable time, behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:1-2; cf. Heb. 3:12-13).
