7. 7 DFE Guidance (EET & ITF) Careers guidance and inspiration for young people in schools - statutory Careers guidance and inspiration for young people in schools - non-statutory Careers guidance and inspiration – general further education colleges & sixth-form colleges Evidence from the Education and Employers Taskforce shows that access to a network of employers is associated with better outcomes for young people. Employers can pass on the benefits of their experience to both pupils and teachers, helping to link curriculum subjects to employment and providing an overview of the different routes into careers. Education and Employers Taskforce – Supports effective partnership between schools, colleges and employers to inspire young people. Inspiring the Future – A free service across England with volunteers from all sectors and professions going into state secondary schools and colleges to talk about their jobs and sectors. Inspiring the Future – launched in July 2012 by the Education and Employers Taskforce, matches schools and colleges with inspiring employers who can give career insight talks.

9. What is Inspiring the Future? Inspiring the Future is a FREE service whereby employees from all sectors and professions from Apprentices to CEOs pledge one hour a year to volunteer to go into state schools and colleges to talk about their jobs, careers, and the education routes they took It is a FREE service endorsed by Government (with cross-party support), the UK’s main teacher and employer representative organisations and many leading employers It makes a difference to young people. Good quality research shows that who you meet as a teenager shapes the success with which young people go into adult life Teachers overwhelmingly want young people to hear more from people in the workplace 9

Russell Hobby, NAHT General Secretary Inspiring the Future: Primary Futures Essentially this is a primary school project working under the banner of 'Inspiring the Future' to develop effective, innovative approaches which will allow schools to easily engage volunteers to work in schools with primary aged children and is run in partnership with the NAHT When teaching staff log on to the system, they get a list of all those people registered in their area and it’s a simple process to send a message through the system to get in touch When volunteers sign up, they are asked if they would mind being approached by local primary schools to talk about their current job and why reading and numeracy in their primary school days were so important in achieving their current status.

24. 24 Inspiring the Future: Inspiring Governors Inspiring Governors is a major new alliance to celebrate and promote the importance of school governors. The Inspiring Governors Alliance brings together wide range of organisations to demonstrate their public commitment to high quality school and college governance. Organisations include the Government (Department for Education and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills), those representing employers (such as the CBI and FSB); governors (such as the National Governors’ Association, NCOGS and SGOSS); professional bodies representing the teaching profession (such as the AoC, ASCL, CIPD and NAHT); numerous private and third sector organisations and many leading employers. Inspiring Governors has thousands of employee volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience interested in becoming school governors throughout the UK. Teachers and recruiting governors can directly contact volunteers to invite them into their school for an exploratory chat about the role. If you’re a state school/college simply sign up at the top of the page and click ‘Teacher Register’, and when you click ‘Find Volunteers’ select governors as an activity, and it will show you those volunteers interested in being contacted in your area.

25. 25 The impact of Inspiring the Future We are really pleased to have found Inspiring the Future. We had amazing support from local industry who helped our students in improving their interview technique. The representatives who attended were approachable and did a fantastic job. For this event two volunteers attended and I use the website to recruit a similar number for each careers morning I run.
