What is social justice? Social justice is defined as "... promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity." In conditions of social justice, people are "not discriminated against, nor their welfare and well-being constrained or prejudiced on the basis of gender, sexuality, religion, political affiliations, age, race, belief, disability, location, social class, socioeconomic circumstances, or other characteristic of background or group membership" (Toowoomba Catholic Education, 2006).

What social justice issues exist? Access to food, clean water and shelter Access to adequate healthcare Income inequality (between world employees/men and women) Environmental Justice Minority Rights (women, racial/ethnic groups, the elderly, children, etc.) Access to education Access to technology Human Trafficking THERE IS MORE! MUCH MORE! https://www.ucmo.edu/adp/documents/Social_Justice_Sample_Topics_fall2012_000.pdf

What am I supposed to do? Students write persuasive texts to influence the attitudes or actions of a specific audience on specific issues. Students are expected to write an argumentative essay to the appropriate audience…

What if I don’t want to write a letter?

How am I going to be graded? Is your paper persuasive? Does it have an appropriate tone/diction for the audience? Are spelling, grammar, and capitalization being used properly? Did you use 3 or more rhetorical devices? Does your project approach an issue of injustice? Then you get an A! IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO READ, UNDERSTAND, AND FOLLOW THE RUBRIC!

Where do I start? Recommended Apps 1.What cause, or injustice, do I want to address in my text? 2.What am I trying to persuade my audience of? 3.Who is the audience I am trying to reach and how will that affect my writing?

Today’s Class 1. Review Rubric for Persuasive Project 2. Who is my audience? 3. Submit topic proposals AUDIENCE ANALYSIS: Who is most affected? What demographic needs to hear the message? I will persuade my audience to donate food to local and global organizations including the Tarrant Area Food Bank and ‘Stop Hunger Now’. 3. Who is the audience I am trying to reach and how will that affect my writing?I am persuading students at Haltom High School. This influences my writing because I will use social media, posters, and other materials students can see daily. 4. What is your purpose for writing right now? Seeing people waste food everyday in the cafeteria got me thinking that there is no reason why hunger/starvation in other countries should still be an issue today.
