6.RP.3b Day 6a

Follow these steps: 1. Label: rate, time, distance 2. Plug into formula: distance = rate X time or rate = distance/time time = distance/time 4. Solve formula 3. 3. Change time to hours, minutes, or seconds as needed (to change time to hours, divide by 60).

We need to be at the movies in 30 minutes. If the theater is 25 miles away, how fast will we need to travel? Distance = rate x time Rate = Distance/time Change the time to hours: TIME: 30 min =.5 hour Rate = 25 miles/.5 hours Rate = 50 miles per hour TIME DISTANCE WE NEED RATE

What is the speed or rate of a ship that travels 408 miles in 12 hours? 1. Label: Distance: 408 miles Rate: ? Time: 12 hours 2. Formula: Rate = 408/12 Rate = 34 mph Rate = Distance/Time

The South (during the Civil War) rode the HL Hunley submarine in the ocean for 3 hours at a speed of 22 miles per hour. How far did the submarine travel? Distance = Rate x Time Distance = 22 mph x 3 hrs Distance = 66 miles

A garden snail moves about 6 inches in 2 minutes. What is its speed in inches per minute? Distance = Rate x Time Rate = Distance/Time Rate = 6 inches / 2 minutes Rate = 3 inches per minute

Our family went to Florida by airplane. We flew at a rate of 425 miles per hour for 3 hours. How many miles did we fly? Distance = Rate x Time Distance = 425 mph x 3 hrs Distance = 1,275 miles

On spring break, John rode the cruise ship to Mexico for 8 hours at a rate of 30 miles per hour. How far did the cruise ship travel? 300 miles 240 miles

Let’s Try Again REMEMBER: “dirt” Distance = Rate X Time Rate: 30 miles per hour Time: 8 hours Click to try again

8 hours X 30 miles per hour = 240 miles

We need to be at the hospital in 30 minutes. How fast will we have to travel if the hospital is 15 miles away? 36 miles per hour 30 miles per hour

Oops Let’s Try Again Rate = distance / time rate= 15miles /.5hour **Don’t forget to change minutes to hours- 30 minutes is the same as ½ hour. Click to try again

15miles /.5hour = 30 miles per hour

You need to be at school in 15 minutes. If school is 5 miles away, how fast will you have to travel? 3 mph 20 mph

Oops Let’s Try Again Rate = distance / time Rate = 5 miles /.25 hour Rate = _____mph **Don’t forget to change the minutes to hours. 15 minutes is the same as.25 or ¼ of an hour. Click to try again

5 miles /.25 hours = 20 mph

The flight from New York to South Carolina is 3 hours long. The plane travels at a rate of 190 miles per hour. How many miles is it from New York to South Carolina? NY SC 570 miles 630 miles

Let’s Try Again Distance = rate X time “Dirt” Click to try again

190 miles per hour X 3 hours = 570 miles

Ben rode his skateboard at a rate of 5 miles per hour for 3 hours. How far did he travel if he skated in a straight line? 30 miles15 miles

Let’s Try Again Distance = rate X time “Dirt” Click to try again

5 miles per hour X 3 hours = 15 miles

Your Finished!!
