2 PROBLEM Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro desire a numerical means of testing the strength of rural in service utility poles Let poles stay in service for longer Prevent catastrophic pole failure Allow trending of pole strength and failure conditions Current tests are insufficient or inefficient Auditory hammer test Fly-by and video capture “Pole Tester” Source: CBC
