Adjectives used as nouns Sooo easy in French if you remember adjective agreement!!! In english we say, Do you want the green or white backpack? I’d like the green one. In French – je préfère le vert. (basically just remove sac à dos from in between le and vert) So here’s how it works – whatever item is “the one” in English – determines in French if you use le, la, les – and how the end of the adjective looks – vert, verte, verts, vertes. ** the question in French- tu veux le sac à dos vert ou blanc? **
16
Examples Je vais acheter les feuilles de papier blanches. Et toi? Je préfère les jaunes. / les vertes Tu aimes la calculatrice verte ou violette? J’aime la violette! Use the adjective as a noun to tell what you prefer - les stylos / bleu ou vert : Je préfère les bleus.
