2 In F1 money generated from sponsorship accounts for almost 50% of the revenue going into the sport.”  F1 research and development (R&D) costs in particular have risen steadily over the past decade.  Williams spend almost half (£48.1 million) of their annual budget of almost £100 million in this area of their business.  Meanwhile, the privately-owned Red Bull team spent almost £70 million on R&D last year, though it’s annual budget exceeded £200 million.

3  Given that Red Bull have romped to three consecutive constructor titles, does this suggest that, like so many other sports nowadays, Formula One success is a direct function of the amount of money thrown at its participants?  With events like the Olympics, do the most wealthy countries do best? How much more money do some countries put in to their training budgets? Is that fair competition?

10  The company hope that the sports star/team wearing a particular product/ using it will encourage fans to buy it.  The money from sponsorship enables individual and teams to compete at the highest levels.
