WP8 & WP10 Requirements for Testbed1 Ingo Augustin CERN 10.5.2001 WP6 meeting @ CERN
2
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN2 WP8 Timing 1.1.2002 Report about testbed1 to EC 1.12.2001 Tests on testbed1 completed 15.10.2001 Start deploying application software 1.9.2001 Start to develop special code for tb1 –might be slightly earlier, when APIs are published earlier (dummies could do)
3
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN3 Software Deployment Three categories –needing root access: gcc, grid-software, etc... but also OBJY! Done by WP6 –community software HEP-lib, clhep, GEANT4,…. Provided by CERN and deployed by WP6 –application software done by WP8 (TWG)
4
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN4 WP8 Technical Working Group Consists of technical representatives of the experiments + WP9 &10 –develop installation kits for ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb One FTE from CERN, INFN, CNRS, NIKHEF and PPARC each –these will deploy all experiments software on their respective national testbed sites –advice from WP6 about procedure needed
5
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN5 Sites Development platforms needed!!! –We can’t wait until everything is in place on tb1 At least one site per partner needed Each experiment will start with two sites –do mix too many problems at the start –Initially no resource sharing for tests At the end deploy everything everywhere
6
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN6 Site Layout Local code and library repository –nfs would initially do for small testbed sites –don’t want to transfer GB’s via WAN to generate MB’s in MonteCarlo Software infrastructure –gnu, heplib, OBJY, …. –Not yet conclusively defined –But exists already in reality (LXPLUS)
7
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN7 Site Layout II Environment for Jobs –pathnames, shells, compiler versions,…. –Generated by the job itself? Or preinstalled per VO? Web-Server (ref. to Eric van Herwijnen)
8
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN8 Authentication single login mandatory my guess: ~ 10 users per experiment in tb1 transparent access to sites –user is unaware of the site layout and even of the location –(start with 4 HEP testbeds while policies are not yet available?) procedure needed to acquire certificates
9
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN9 Administration Interaction with CA’s –how do we register users –who is doing it? Experiments, WP6? Central code repository for infrastructure needed –from gcc to GEANT4
10
10/5/2001 WP6 Meeting I. Augustin, CERN10 Administration II Setup of support –tracking of error reports... How do we deal licensing issues? –ORACLE might be used by HEP & Bio How to install own testbeds? –eg. MPI tests for Bio
