4 4 Types of Government Democracy Monarchy Dictatorship Communism Are these the only 4? Are there others?

5 Geographic Characteristics of Nations To describe a country people use 3 characteristics: Size, Shape and Location Size- physical size Shape- physical shape Location- Relative Location to other resources and countries

6 National Boundaries There are Natural and Artificial Boundaries Rivers/Lakes vs. Fixed lines decided by nations “Boundaries or borders set the limits of the territory controlled within a state.” p.85 Within its borders, what can countries do/decide?

7 Regional Political Systems Smaller political units useful for making governing people more easy. Fore example: federal, state and local governments. How is Kuwait divided into smaller political units? Can you give an example for any other country?

8 Political Alliances What are some modern day political alliances? Why are they useful? Countries may join with each other to form international political, military or economic units. For example: UN (United Nations), European Union, NATO, GCC

11 4 Types of Economic Systems These are not the only 4… Traditional Economy- Goods and Services traded without exchanging money. People barter Common Economy- Production of goods and services is determined by a central government which owns the means of production. This is a planned economy

12 Market Economy- Production of goods and services determined by demand from consumers. Also called capitalism Mixed Economy- A combination of common and market economies provides goods and services so that all people with benefit.

13 IN CLASS WORK- with a partner Make a poster describing 4 Economic Systems p. 91 Diagram Kuwait’s Economy in Relation to Different Economic Systems in a country of your choice.
