Cavities The human body has 4 major body cavities 1: Cranial Cavity (houses the brain) 2: Vertebral Canal (houses the spinal cord) 3: Thoracic Cavity (houses the lungs and heart) 4: Abdominopelvic cavity (Abdominal and Pelvic cavities) -Abdominal cavity houses the digestive organs, spleen, and kidneys -Pelvic cavity houses the bladder and reproductive organs

Organ Systems The human body has 11 different organ systems 1: Skeletal (bones and joints) 2: Muscular (muscles) 3: Integumentary (skin, hair, nails, subcutaneous fat) 4: Nervous (brain, spinal cord, nerves) 5. Circulatory (heart and blood) 6. Respiratory (nose, lungs, trachea, bronchi)

Organ Systems Continued 7: Digestive (mouth, stomach, intestines, rectum, teeth, tongue, liver, pancreas) 8: Endocrine (pituitary gland, pineal gland, ovaries, testes, thyroid gland) 9. Urinary (kidneys, bladder, urethra, ureters) 10. Reproductive (male: testes, scrotum, penis, vas deferens, prostate; female:ovaries, uterus, vagina, mammary glands) 11. Lymphatic (lymph nodes and vessels, thymus, spleen)

Body Poster #1 On the butcher paper: 1: Trace a person in your group 2: Fill in this tracing with the 5 different body cavities 3: Draw in all 11 body systems -be colorful, original, and accurate! -make sure you represent both the skeletal and muscular systems in at least one part of your drawing Please do not draw the reproductive system – just write the words in the correct body area
