2 Student Learning Outcome 1.Be able to locate Delta College Library’s website and be aware of the library’s variety of resources and services 2.Be able to find books in print and electronic formats, audiovisual materials, textbooks, and reserved readings from the library catalog (GoCat) 3.Be able to conduct a keyword/phrase search or SmartText search in GoElectronic to find full-text e-books and articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers on a chosen topic 4.Be able to limit your search results and evaluate retrieved sources that are pertinent to your topic and save or e-mail or print the sources 5.Be able to cite the sources in MLA style Library

Search for Books in GoCat 5 Click on the title link to display detailed information.

Search for Reserved Items or Textbooks 7 1.Select Reserve Desk from the dropdown menu 2.Choose Instructor Name (or Course Name and Course ID number) from the search field 3.Enter your professor’s last name in the search box 4.Click Enter or Return on your computer keyboard or on the Search button. 5. Click on your professor’s name link to display reserved item(s) for his classes.

8 Search for Reserved Items or Textbooks Click on the course link to display the detailed record Identify the location, call number, and circulation status of the reserved item. To check it out at the Circulation/Reserve Desk, present the call number and your library card.

11 Sample Keyword Search Search Steps: Enter keywords or a phrase in the search box Select appropriate search options Select limit search options Press Enter or click on the Search button to conduct your search

12 Preliminary Search Results The preliminary search result may be huge and overwhelming, including e-books and articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers. Refine the search by selecting more facets. Click on the title to display the detailed record.

13 To read the full content from the ebook, click HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text Display the Full Content of an eBook

15 Display a Full-Text eBook To make it readable, click on the drop-down arrows and select Page Width. Select the content from the Table of Contents or click on the right arrow to read the next page To print the pages from the ebook, click on the printer icon and enter your page range.

16 Find the Citation in the Database Click on the Cite icon and scroll down to find your preferred citation format.
