WHAT TO INCLUDE: YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION -Your Name -Your Address -Your City, State, Zip Code -Your Phone Number -Your Cell Phone Number -Your Email Address

WHAT TO INCLUDE: ADDRESSEE CONTACT INFO. -Name of Scholarship Board -Name of Potential Employer -Name of Letter of Recommendation Writer -If you don’t have the contact information of the person you’re addressing the letter to, then leave it off of your letter

WHAT TO INCLUDE: SALUTATION Salutation (noun) (1)A gesture or utterance made as a greeting or acknowledgement of another’s arrival or departure (2)A standard formula of words used in a letter to address the person being written to -Address the person to whom you’re writing the letter -Ex: Dear Mr. Jones, Dear Ms. Jones, Dear Jane Doe -If unknown, address “To Whom It May Concern” Follow the salutation with a colon

WHAT TO INCLUDE: BODY OF LETTER -1 st paragraph: Why you are writing -2 nd paragraph: What you have to offer -3 rd paragraph: What you have to offer -4th paragraph: How you will follow-up

WHAT TO INCLUDE: CLOSURE/SIGNATURE -End the letter appropriately with a closing sentiment followed by your name -Ex: -Thank you for your consideration -Respectfully -Best Regards -Sincerely -Hand sign your name
