Memory Strategies and Ways to Study for Finals By Speech Class of 2011

Flash cards I use my flash cards to review my vocabulary and notes as a way to study for quizzes or tests. Make flash cards and go over them several times Elias, Averi, and Alex

Rewrite When you rewrite something over and over so you know it. When there are finals I am going to rewrite most or all of my work for Social Studies, and Spanish. I review old exams and write the correct answers 3 times each Francesco and Samantha

Review Writing down information that the teacher gives you in class. Write down only the important facts. Re-read your notes every night and if you don’t understand them, then ask the teacher the next day. If you keep up with your notes, you will have less studying to do. --Dimitri

Ways to Study Look over your old tests. There may be questions that will show up on your finals. Correct any old test mistakes as a way to review. Look over review sheets often Joseph and Robert

Review, review and study too Review notes many times before the test Parents review with you and can test you on the information. Friends can go over the information with you and review terms and facts. Get together a study group. James and Samantha

Fun ways to study Make a game to use for studying like: Jeopardy Who wants to be a Millionaire? Concentration Quia website to quiz yourself Brain pop lessons with test questions after. Make a flip book Frankie, Dimitri, Joseph, Robert, Alex, Kellie

Memory tricks Make up a sentence to help you remember something (Mnemonics) Examples: 1.Units of Measurement: King Henry Drinks Unusually Dark Chocolate Milk Kilometer, Hectometer, Decameter, Units (Meters), Decimeter, Centimeter, Millimeter 2. Scientific Method: I Run Home Every Other Cold Rainstorm Identify the problem, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Observation, Conclusion, Revise/ Retest --Grossy, Samantha

Acronyms Make up a word where each letter in the word stands for something you need to remember Does not have to be a real word Example: 1. PEMDAS – Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Divide, Addition, Subtraction --Robert, Ms. Bonasia

Pictures Draw a picture of something you are trying to remember Imagine a picture in your mind. Picture lists of items you need to remember together --Ms. Bonasia

How to be prepared for finals Get a good night’s sleep! No Xbox, Wii, Playstation 3, TV, late-night chats /texting, Facebook, 3DS,IPods, IPads, IPhones, etc. Eat a healthy breakfast --Kellie, Francesco, Alex
