2. Independence Each morning there will be an independent activity awaiting the children in the classroom. Monday – Handwriting Tuesday – spelling investigation Wednesday – Mental Maths Thursday – Mental Maths Friday – Sentence level work

3. Writing Writing with RJ Monday to Thursday Focus will be on repetitive opportunities to learn a genre. Marking will move the children’s learning forward. Whilst all children will be supported – all writing opportunities will be independent. All children will be encouraged to challenge themselves and experiment with language, sentence structure and punctuation.

4. Reading There will be 3 guided reading sessions each week timetabled. Some groups will access additional guided reading sessions with Mr Tate. There will be 2 timetabled opportunities to read independently. Mrs Jones, Mr Tate and Mr Johnson will all record when they have listened to your child reading in the reading record. Children should have their book and reading record in school each day.

5. Maths Please help your child with their times tables. Count in 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s when climbing the stairs. Learn x tables when out in the car. Recall x table facts after bedtime story. Just 5 minutes each day will help immensely. Maths will be timetabled every day. There will be a mental maths test each week. When marking this as a class the teacher will review misconceptions and new ideas

6. Trails and Dreams Cross curricular topic will last for the Autumn Term. Includes our residential visit to Beeston. Trails = Sandstone Trail – local area Dreams = Marc Chagall art, poetry about dreams, investigating the importance and meaning behind dreams and aspirations

7. PE Using Government funding to improve delivery of PE, Tarporley CE have used the income for top quality PE delivery from Sportscape. In Year 3 the children will have 2 sessions from sportscape on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Miss Conway will cover a gymnastics element on Friday mornings.

8. Open door Policy Should you have any concerns do not hesitate to come into school. After school is the best time but if it is urgent I will be out on the school playground from 8.30 each morning.
