Levels 3c, 3b, 3a Age Related Expectations (ARE) Expected Standard

What is the national expected standard? It’s more defined in Year 6 But not in Years 3, 4 and 5

Year 6 TeacherAssessments+ SATs Tests “Working at the expectedstandard” Standardisedscore 100.0 = ES INTERTIM YEAR!

Year 3, 4, 5 TeacherAssessments + In class tests + Knowledge of child “Your child is working at the expected standard.” (or towards, or above!)

What about progress? Not “James is making good progress since the last assessment” Rather, “James is making good progress in order to meet the expected standard.” More information to be given about progress, particularly in the target cards and at parents’ evenings. Feedback – more progress information needed!

Year 6 What we know: The children will be prepared like they always are to tackle challenges They will sit tests (not for Writing – teacher assessment) No mental maths test this year but they still need mental maths. The tests will be similar to previous years but a bit harder What we don’t know: How many points a child will need to be successful What their results will be How these results will be reported to the children

How can you help? Read with your child AND ask questions Do homework thoroughly and weekly Practise spellings, handwriting and times tables. Sleep lots, eat healthily and exercise Be involved with school Thank you!
