THE STORY OF THE LADY AND THE CIGARETTES

Every day, when she woke up in the morning, the lady would go through her normal routine. She just could not function without it………

The lady would put the kettle on for a coffee, turn on the telly and light up a cigarette.

THEN ONE DAY The lady read on the back of a pack of fags….. Cigarettes are BAD for you. They cause CANCER. NEWS!

No more cigarettes for me. I don’t want to get cancer.

COFFEE + TELLY + ……… NEXT DAY

COFFEE + TELLY + ………. AND THE NEXT DAY

IT DIDN’T FEEL RIGHT so later on the lady smoked lots of cigarettes. She couldn’t stop smoking cigarettes.

THEN ONE DAY The lady heard of ….. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT

The next day Instead of coffee and telly when she woke up, the lady did something different - she sat in a different room, made a healthy breakfast and tried fruit juice instead of coffee. With more time on her hands in the mornings she went for a walk and cleaned a room she had neglected.

Many human actions exist within a chain of habits. One event sets off another. Education may ‘tell’ us to change. But if the chain of habits isn’t broken, we fail. The environment cues our old behaviour. Do Something Different makes change easier. It weakens the chain of habits that support unwanted behaviour. Doing something differently can set off a whole chain of new positive events. It enriches lives, shakes up attitudes and shapes desired behaviour in a fun way.
