U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY IntroductionIntroduction uThe Objective of this briefing is to prepare you to contact the office of your State Senator or Representative to schedule a meeting. U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY Scheduling Appointments uTo obtain the contact information for your State Senator or Representative visit: http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/legislatorsearch.aspx uCall your Legislator’s offices several day’s ahead of time. uIdentify yourself as a Civil Air Patrol member and inform the secretary that you will be in Santa Fe on an appointed day and would like to meet with your Legislator to encourage them to join the Legislative Squadron. uBe flexible with your legislator’s schedule. uCoordinate with your squadron the intended visit and invite other constituents to attend.

Performing Missions For America! U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY Visiting Your Legislator uBring hand outs to give to the legislator that outline the mission of CAP. Visit the Government Affairs website at the Wing Homepage www.nmcap.org for printable resources and to download the correct membership form specifically for Legislative members. uEnsure all members are in the proper uniform. uPrepare a message to your legislator ahead of time. uThank them for meeting with you. uExplain the three mission of CAP. uInform them of your squadrons accomplishments and personal accounts. uInvite them to join the CAP Legislative Squadron and explain the benefits. uWith your Squadron Commander’s permission, invite your legislator to visit your squadron meeting.

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY Coordinate with NM Wing uAfter meeting with your legislator email the NM Wing Government Affairs Office at nmcapgov@gmail.com and inform them how the meeting went. u Send the completed membership application to the NM Wing Government Affairs Office by either. uScanning and emailing the form to nmcapgov@gmail.com, or uMail the form to New Mexico Wing Headquarters: P.O. Box 5069 Kirtland AFB, NM 87185-5069

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY For Cadets: Paging uPaging offers young men and women the chance to work with their legislator for a day by assisting them with general office tasks. Pages accompany their legislators on the house floor and behind the scenes during the legislative process. uIn the state of New Mexico this activity is an excused absence from many schools. Check with your school administrator before scheduling. uTo obtain the contact information for your State Senator or Representative visit: http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/legislatorsearch.aspx uCall your Legislator’s offices several day’s ahead of time and inform the secretary that you would like to page for your legislator on an appointed day. uIdentify yourself as a Civil Air Patrol member and inform the secretary that you will encourage your Legislator to join the Legislative Squadron. uCoordinate with your squadron the intended visit.
