VINS DES CÔTES DE GASCOGNE & BAS-ARMAGNACS
2
THE ORIGINS In Gascony, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees in the South West France, there is a place like no other. A place where wine takes root: the Domaine du Tariquet. A family estate since 1912, over the years the successive generations have come to realize the potential of this exceptional winemaking estate.
3
1683: First Bas-Armagnacs produced at Domaine du Tariquet. 1912: Acquisition of the estate by Pierre Artaud, Hélène Grassa’s grandfather. 1946: Hélène and her husband, Pierre, settle down at the estate. 1972: Maïté and Yves take the reins of Domaine du Tariquet. 1982: Elaboration of the Grassa’s first white wine, the Classic - awarded in Montpellier by a Gold Medal with the jury’s congratulations (in 1983). 1987: Yves Grassa is designated as “White Wine Maker of the Year” by the International Wine Challenge in London. 2005: Armin and Rémy Grassa, Yves’ two sons, take over the family estate, which expanded with the acquisition and planting of new vines and new grape varieties. 2012: Three generations and 350 guests celebrate a century of family history. 2014: “Individual Distillery of the Year” (ISC, London). 2015: Family-owned estate of 1,125 hectares in production. From left to right : Yves, Maïté, Rémy, Hélène, Pierre, Armin
4
A TERROIR & A CLIMATE A mosaic of terroirs: Clay-limestone soils and “boulbène” topsoil (silica, clay, sand) enhanced by ochre-coloured sand known as “sables fauves”. An oceanic climate: A strong temperature amplitude between summer days and nights favouring the flavours’ precursors development in the grapes’ skin. THE VINEYARDS 100 % “propriétaire – récoltant” (wine grower) with 1,125 hectares of vines, 100 of which are dedicated to the Armagnac. Planted grape varieties: For the white wines: Ugni blanc, Colombard, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin, Sémillon, Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng. For the Bas-Armagnacs: Ugni blanc, Folle Blanche, Baco and Plant de Graisse.
5

L’ARMAGNAC DU CENTENAIRE CASK STRENGTH 53.5° GRAPE VARIETIES Ugni blanc, Baco, Folle Blanche and Plant de Graisse TASTING NOTES A meticulous selection was carried out from the 4,500 barrels of Bas-Armagnac that are stored in Château du Tariquet’s cellars... 10 to 30 years old eaux-de-vie have been blended together to produce this cuvée with an average age of 20 years. Ugni blanc brings freshness and a real finesse while Baco brings power, «fire» and robustness. These two main grapes are accompanied by Folle Blanche, a rare, delicate variety that produces elegant, wonderfully fragrant Armagnacs. The final blend, which shall remain secret, is given a little extra «spice» with a small proportion of Plant de Graisse. This Bas-Armagnac is a limited edition celebrating the union of Château du Tariquet and the Grassa family: only 2012 hand-written, individually numbered bottles were produced.
