Perkins Supplemental Grants FY17

“Innovation” funding It is 10% off of what goes to the field – We give about 11 million in Perkins to the field – We have about 1 million in supplemental grants Grants range from $50,000 on down – Grant may have an identified amount – Grant may not have an identified amount – Always have more requests than funding

Career Development Grant To implement an educational program designed to assure students know how to make career choices and create education plans to prepare themselves for those careers

Sample Activities for Career Development Grant Portable technology to do career exploration and planning within the classroom Success coach initiative – remediate deficiencies; bring parents and students in for weekly/monthly for career, academic and personal/social skill development; after school meetings for students on life skills; career field trips Expand career development from 5 th – 12 grade in a select number of additional schools

Nontraditional Grant To provide organizations/entities means to provide strategies to recruit and retain male and/or female student in nontraditional career majors Nontraditional occupations are defined as those for which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25% of the individuals employed in each occupation or field of work

Sample Activities from Nontraditional Grant Applications Create videos highlighting former and current nontraditional students Nontraditional component to current recruitment plans with partner schools (activities and success stories) Nontraditional speakers bureau Middle School: Mother/Daughter TEA (Technology Engineering Aptitude) Event – one day event with plans to extend sessions on weekends

Disabilities Services Grant To support Oklahoma career and technology education students with varying types of disabilities to explore career options and for transition support into postsecondary education/training levels as well as employment To implement transition programs and/or other support strategies to assist in the provision of transferable skill sets to students regarding the attainment of meaningful employment and becoming productive members of society

Sample Activities from Grant Applications More structured internship to reach additional students and provide more employment opportunities Transitional Information Fair Transition support services – career exploration trips; obtaining and returning job applications, attending interviews (Job Search program); help with transporation Follow up support and services provided to students after employment begins to ensure success

Helpful Hints Follow the grant guidelines and answer the questions Think about the data you will use to help you know how effective the grant was Budget – NO FOOD, NO MARKETING ITEMS; any question – call us – Your budget can be adjusted so you don’t have to 100% right on the amounts – Contact us before you adjust to make sure all is fine
