3. Personification  Why use figurative language?  Personification- a figure of speech in which human characteristics are given to an animal or an object.  Personification: stimulates imagination does not make literal sense

4. Step 1:Write a sentence describing something. The great oak tree moved because of the cold wind. Step 2: Change the verb to an action that a human would perform. The great oak tree shivered in the cold wind. When the verbs are personified, it make the object come to life. You can imagine the tree shivering as if it were cold. How to personify

5. Let’s try one more. Step 1: Write a sentence describing something. Huge waves came up on shore. Step 2: Change the verb to an action that a human would perform. The waves clawed at the shore. This creates an image of the waves with hands dragging fingers through the sand.

6. Now it is your turn… Using the handout you were given: 1) Write a sentence describing the Georgian mountains or coast. 2) Personify that sentence with a human action. 3) Describe what the sentence means by drawing a picture of what the personification would look like.
