Providing access and challenge to all students within an innovative learning environment. Students have a voice in establishing equity and design of their curriculum. 8

Smith Elementary Location and general demographic information about the students Located in San Jose, California New Tech Network Elementary & No Excuses University network school to 6 th grade. Located in majority Hispanic population and poverty. Hispanic students 67%, Asian students 23%, White 2% Total 691 students with 35 teachers 19.66 ration 61% of students are Second Language Learners Special Education 10%. Reclassified as English proficient is 3%. 15

Utilized Spanish speaking parents to help with the project. They have a program where students can get help no matter their racial background. They have a non-discrimination and a sexual harassment policy Translate school policies and procedures into Spanish and Vietnamese 18

Summary All 3 schools are committed to students being able to graduate to the next level of school and then have them progress into the real work by using the skills that they learned in school. They all realize that being connected at home is just as important as being connected in school. They are all models of excellence for 21 st century learning and community service by preparing their students to think, learn, work, communicate, collaborate and contribute effectively now and throughout their lives. 20
