5 Lactic Acid Fermentation Glycolysis creates –two pyruvates (3C) –4ATP (net gain of 2ATP) –NADH Step 1: NADH breaks down pyruvates into lactic acid –Lactic acid causes muscle burn –Acids breaks down upon oxygen returning Step 2: NAD returns to glycolysis

6 Alcoholic Fermentation Glycolysis creates –two pyruvates (3C) –4 ATP (net gain of 2 ATP) –NADH Step 1: NADH breaks down pyruvates into ethanol and CO 2 Step 2: NAD returns to glycolysis
