Develop strategies to increase access to targeted equipment High demand, lightly used DME High cost DME & AT including bariatric equipment High cost and lightly used DME & AT
9
Increase access to high demand, lightly used DME Such as: manual wheelchairs, shower chairs, patient lifts and walkers with seats and brakes Valuable to a reuse program Cuts turnaround time Increases customer satisfaction

16
Strategies targeting high cost DME & AT Power wheelchairs, scooters and bariatric equipment are essential to maintain mobility and increase independence Expensive electronic AT including environmental control units, PDAs and GPS devices can be of great use to a person with mobility concerns or cognitive, organizational or learning disabilities
17
Identify potential partners Businesses such as rural farm cooperatives and private precision farming companies Weight loss clinics Leukemia, arthritis, spinal cord injury, diabetes or other consumer support groups
18
Strategy: Tap your friends We contacted regional farm publication editor acquainted with program staff and program’s reputation Editor provided introduction to precision farming business owner Resulting in a donation of used GPS technology
19
Strategy: Use the Internet We wanted to contact a weight loss clinic about providing reuse information to customers of opportunity to donate unneeded bariatric equipment Internet search resulted in public seminar information Staff attended seminar, provided clinic staff with reuse program information Results: Reuse brochures are available to clinic patients in a major metropolitan area
20
Strategy: Attend statewide events We attended a statewide recycling conference Networked with a company who collects cell phones for charity Resulted in a donation of used cell phones with PDA capability

Increase access to high cost and lightly used DME & AT DME and AT that is both high cost and lightly used increases the value of a reuse program to its customers by making expensive, nearly new equipment available to people who otherwise could not afford it Encouraging donations from people who are dealing with changing health conditions and loss requires a tactful approach

25
Strategy: Start local Contacted local funeral home director Resulting in the Kansas Funeral Directors Association support of reuse program with a reuse article in statewide journal Distribution of 2000 reuse program brochures to KFDA members across Kansas

28
Strategy: Schedule follow-up contact Follow up successful partnership activities On the one year anniversary of the first KFDA article, we submitted a follow-up article resulting in the association director assuring active promotion at annual fall meeting
29
Strategy: Accept invitations Met with KDHE to discuss recycling Invited to participate in Earth Day Festival in Topeka Received an invitation to set up booth at a community blood drive Resulting in increased donations in the immediate area in the following weeks
