Good Morning Please use your I Leap book or Leap Book to Complete Questions *DO NOT WRITE IN THE BOOK

September 20, 2013 I commend those who try their best to do what is asked of them. I appreciate those who go home every night and complete the homework that I ask them to complete. Doing homework is only a reinforcement (practice) on what you have learned or are learning. This weekend lets stay abreast of what is going on in this world.

What must I know about the Water Cycle ? Let’s review- Nitrogen cycle Let’s talk about the Water Cycle Where does water start and what cycles does it go through?
4
Words to Know Evaporation -The process of liquid turning into gas Transpiration- Water exiting plant leaves Respiration -Water vapor from cell activity Condensation Gas to liquid Precipitation- Falling liquid (Rain) Infiltration - Water entering the ground Ground Water- Water in the ground Aquifer -The land over ground water Combustion-the presence of oxygen to give off the products of carbon dioxide and water and ENERGY
5
Let Ms. Martin make sense of things 1 st The sun energy evaporates water from the sea to the atmosphere 2 nd Water vapor joins water molecules and gives precipitation which can be in any form 3 rd Some water will reach the earth and the rest will EVAPORATE back into the atmosphere 4 th Engines from vehicles create Water Vapor- Combustion 5 th Animals breathe and create Water vapor- Respiration 6 th Water will be drawn up by plant roots, then TRANSPIRATION, or given off through the leaves, back into the air as water vapor

Our LAB Our Question- I want to know how the Water cycle works. – Make a question. Plan- We will use a beaker filled with 400 mls of water, a hot plate, tongs, a plate and safety gloves to observe the Water cycle. Hypothesis- Create your own!! Experiment- Analyze- Draw and Write what happened. Conclusion- State if your hypothesis was correct or incorrect but don’t forget to Explain.
8
Fourth Graders/Fifth Graders Homework- Watch the local or national News and be able to report something that is going on in our world on Monday.
9
Fourth Grade Words you must know are Matter- is anything around you-Is anything that is made up of molecules and atoms. Mass- the measure of the amount of matter in an object-*students Volume- the measure of the amount of mass in an object- LIQUIDS*size of room Density- the amount of matter in a given space - d=m/v- packed- squished Solution- are molecules (things) mixed up with even distribution Mixture- Is to combine more than one substance together Dissolved-when something that’s a solid can mix into a liquid Buoyancy-the ability of an object to float in air or water
10
Diet Soda versus Regular Soda The volume in both cans are the same The mass of both cans should be but are they? It’s the same size and shape. The density is different, WHY? Density refers to the objects being packed together! The more closely packed the atoms are to each other the more dense they are. Which will sink or float?

Lab Reports/ Performance Task Have you ever wondered what it was like to live long ago? You’re in luck! A time machine is available to take you back to any time period you are studying in class. Before your trip back in time, think about some questions you would like answered about how people may have lived. You might have questions about what types of food people ate, what they did for work, what school was like or what people did for fun. Use information from class or other sources to help you answer your questions. As you go back in time, compare how life is different from and the same as life today, using the questions you developed. Make sure you provide examples. Based on the information you have found, decide if life is easier or harder today. Use examples to support your point of view. Using the information you have collected, design a brochure to help your classmates know what to expect if they go back in time. At the end of the brochure, write about the most important thing you learned while doing the project and what you would do differently next time. You will be assessed on your ability to develop questions, your ability to compare and contrast, your ability to make decisions, and your ability to communicate effectively in a variety of ways.
