Airplane  Created in 1980 to spoof Police movies of the 80’s  http://www.movie- list.com/a/airplane.html http://www.movie- list.com/a/airplane.html  Can you fly this plane and land it? Surely you can’t be serious? I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.

Austin Powers  Created in 1997 to spoof the James Bond genre.  http://www.imdb.com/vi deo/screenplay/vi216203 3433/ http://www.imdb.com/vi deo/screenplay/vi216203 3433/  Dr. Evil: Scott, I want you to meet daddy’s nemesis, Austin Powers. Scott: What? Why are you feeding him? Why don’t you just kill him? Dr. Evil: I have an even better idea. I’m going to place him in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death.

Young Frankenstein  A 1974 spoof on the Frankenstein legend.  http://www.imdb.com/vi deo/screenplay/vi307016 5273/ http://www.imdb.com/vi deo/screenplay/vi307016 5273/  Dr. F: Now that brain you gave me. Would you mind telling me whose brain I DID put in? Igor: You won’t be angry? Dr. F: I will NOT be angry. Igor: Abby Someone. Dr. F: Abby Someone who? Igor: Abby Normal. Dr. F: Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch gorilla?

Scary Movie  A 2000 spoof on slasher movies.  http://www.imdb.co m/video/screenplay/ vi384434457/ http://www.imdb.co m/video/screenplay/ vi384434457/  All quotes for this movie were too raunchy even for my warped sense of humor.

Remember this…  Parody is a light hearted attempt at mocking – making fun of someone, something.  The key is light hearted. It is meant to make you laugh.  While some parodies can be satirical in content, not all satires can be parodies.

Satire Satire is a literary genre (form) in which human vice, folly, abuse, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque, irony, or other methods, ideally with the intent to bring about improvement.
