2 Directions: 0 Allied Leaders of WWII - Foldable 0 Step 6: Title – Allied leaders of WWII (small one inch fold) 0 Step 7: On the other 6 flaps include the following leaders: 0 Neville Chamberlain & Winston Churchill 0 Franklin Roosevelt & Harry Truman 0 Charles de Gaulle 0 Dwight Eisenhower 0 Douglas MacArthur 0 Joseph Stalin 0 Step 8: On the inside of each flaps write about each leader. Make sure you include the following information about each: 0 What title did they have? (President, Emperor, General) 0 What country did they identify with? 0 What kind of leaders were they? Give details (Ruthless, Kind, Strong) 0 What were their goals when dealing with WWII? And were they able to achieve them. 0 What were a few of their accomplishments

3 Neville Chamberlain 0 Prime Minister of Britain in 1937-1939 0 Believed in Appeasement – give in 0 Did not want to cause another war and felt that Germany had fair grievance against the Treaty of Versailles 0 Met with Hitler at the Munich Conference in Germany and signed the Munich Agreement 0 Germany promised to only take part of Czechoslovakia = Sudetenland but took more 0 Most people of England agreed with him. Until….. 0 1939 Hitler takes Poland. 0 Great Britain declares war but too late 0 Chamberlin in not reelected

4 Winston Churchill 0 Prime Minister of Britain 1940 0 Took an aggressive stand against Hitler 0 Bull dog against Nazism 0 Did not agree with appeasement and had warned against it early on. 0 Did not break even though Britain was fighting Germany alone at the start of WWII. 0 Very involved in military 0 Used the Royal Air force, Commando units, & radar to fight the Nazis 0 Able to keep Germany out even after a year of bombing 0 Worked to gain other allies like the U.S.

5 Charles de Gualle 0 In the 1930’s he warned France against Germany but no one listened 0 He was named Brigadier General 0 After the loss at the battle of Dunkirk. Germany captures France and created Vichy France in 1940 0 Does not accept the defeat and flees to London 0 In exile he leads the French Free State in WWII 0 Allied with the Great Britain 0 Elected President of France in 1945

6 Stalin 0 Named General Secretary of the Communist Soviet Union 0 Takes control in 1926 0 Creates 5 year plan end the NEP and begins collectivization program 0 Wants to increase the USSR’s industrial output and make it a world power 0 Shocks the world by signing a non-aggression pact with Hitler 0 promises not to attack each other and USSR gets ½ of Poland, Latvia and Estonia 0 But Hitler breaks the pact in 1941 and invades Russia 0 Stalin is all alone and must join the allies for support 0 Allies have common goal – HATE HITLER!

7 Franklin Roosevelt 0 Elected President of the United States in 1932 0 Focusing on getting the US out of the Great Depression with the New Deal 0 Following a policy of isolationism 0 Friends with Churchill and agrees to the Lend Lease Act – not in the war but will sell things to Britain 0 Signs the Atlantic Charter with Churchill too deciding what will happen to the World after WWII 0 Things change in 1941 – Japan attacks Pearl Harbor 0 Dec. 7 th 1941 “A day that will live in infamy” 0 Declares War on Germany Dec 8 th 1941

8 Harry Truman 0 Vice President under FDR 0 Becomes President in 1945 when FDR dies 0 The War is over in Europe but not in the Pacific 0 Learns of a new weapon 0 Must decide to if he will drop the atomic bomb on Japan 0 Drops the Atomic on August 8 th & 9 th 1945 0 WWII ends 2 days later

9 Dwight Eisenhower 0 “I like Ike” 0 During WWII assigned to the Army’s War Plan division 0 General led the campaign in Africa, & the invasion of Italy 0 Commander of the European campaign including the storming of Normandy or D-day 0 Major turning point of the war able to free France 0 U.S. War hero

10 Douglas MacArthur 0 U.S. General in the Pacific campaign against Japan 0 Uses an Island Hoping Strategy 0 Takes less occupied/defended islands first working way toward Japan
