1 CALIFORNIA AND WORLD WAR 2 CHAP.9 LESSON 3 By Jonathan Park & Kendryek Wu

2 VOCABULARY.Munitions- Military supplies and weapons.Shortage- A lack of something..Bracero- A skilled Mexican worker who came to California to work during World War ll..Recycle- To use again.Relocation Camp- A prison like camp where Japanese Americans where sent after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

4 PEARL HARBOR During World War II, the Allies and the Axis Powers were battling. The Allies were made up of the Soviet Union, Britain, and France. The Axis Powers were made up of the Germany, Italy, and Japan. At that time, the U.S. were not in the war until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The next day, the U.S. declared war on Japan and entered World War II as an ally. The U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

5 FORT ORD Ford Ord was the largest military training center in California during World war ll. This military training base was near Monterey. It was established 1917 and it closed in 1994. It was used as a maneuver area and field artillery target range.

6 TULE LAKE & MANZANAR Tule Lake was one of the only two Japanese relocation camps in California during World War ll. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, the U.S. were afraid that the Japanese Americans would be loyal to Japan so they put the Japanese Americans in relocation camps. Manzanar was the only other one of the camps.

7 HENRY J. KAISER Henry J. Kaiser was born on May 8, 1882. He became famous for the Kaiser Shipyard, during World War ll. In 1946, Kaiser founded Kaiser Aluminum. Henry J. Kasier died in 1967 at the age of 85 in Honolulu.

8 DAVID GONZALES & JAMES DOOLITTLE David Gonzales and James Doolittle were soliders in World War ll who won the Congressional Medal Award. David Gonzales James Doolittle David Gonzales was among the 13 people people who was awarded the Congressional Medal Award. He earn a medal for saving soldiers. James Doolittle was awarded the Congressional Medal Award when he returned from war with David Gonzales. He was the first pilot to fly across the U.S in less than 24 hours

9 EFFECTS (PEOPLE /POPULATION ).Los Angeles grew greatly during World War ll because it had many places to live.. San Francisco grew by thousands because World War ll destroyed many homes in Pearl Harbor.. Richmond’s population grew much because It had many factories. People came from all Over the United states to work in the factories

10 GERMANY Germany started WWll. They first attacked Porland.They had the Nazi Party attack which was leaded by Hitler. When Germany got defeated in WWll the Nazi Party was outlawed and convicted for many crimes. When they started WWll there was a big movement and sudden supplies were needed.

11 JAPANESE AMERICANS When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, the U.S. join World War ll. At that time, about 125,000 Japanese Americans were living in California at that time. The U.S. were afraid that the Japanese Americans would be loyal to Japan. So, the U.S. put the Japanese Americans in relocation camps. These camps were similar to prisons. they looked like abandoned shacks. These camps were also guarded by soldiers in case anyone tried to escape the camps.Japan was not happy how small there island is so they tried to win land. WWll ends by the surrender of Japan.
