Pheasant Branch Land Use
6
Main channel types, character of Pheasant Branch Manure digester
7
North Fork-- Entrenched channel Ditched in places Mostly fine suspended sediment
8
Main channel through City Middleton— Glacial valley, steep sandy slopes Steep channel gradient, bank erosion Unstable, modified channel Sand bedload
9
Lower channel in marsh to Lake Mendota— Low gradient Slow velocity Shallow, sed deposition
10
Monitoring Results Analyses limited at this time with only 2 years of data or less Pheasant Branch already listed as “impaired’ by WDNR for TP and suspended sediment Short-term volunteer data may be related to long-term USGS gages to extend information

Annual TP load = 7,430 lbs Storm flow load = 86 % Greatest TP load generally occurs in January-March 70 % of TP load is from North Fk. All daily mean concentrations May-Oct exceeded 0.075 mg/L TP

A few take-home thoughts Volunteer monitoring provides valuable data at low cost at more locations Highest concentrations in Pheasant Branch found at Schneider Rd site identifying upstream sources of pollutants CSM data in combination with continuous-record load stations could provide improved information for evaluation
