6 6 Why we’re doing this… Public concerns about air pollution and health risks have slowed port development Trucks are a major source of air pollution Health risks need to be reduced so the Port can continue to support trade and the economy The Ports’ Clean Air Action Plan will reduce pollution from Port sources 45% by 2012

7 7 What will happen Oct. 1… Trucks will be allowed access to the Port, only if: They operate for a trucking firm (LMC) with a POLB concession 1989 or newer truck Driver has a TWIC card or application receipt

8 8 What will happen Oct. 1… Trucks will be allowed access, only if: They have a Temporary Permit on windshield Permits are being mailed to concessioniares

9 9 Infrequent callers… Temporary Access Permit (Day Pass): For non-concession truckers Dispatcher responsibility Online registration @ www.cleanairactionplan.org/pass $100 payment by credit card

As soon as PortCheck is operational, all cargo must be “claimed” by cargo owner before it can be moved

Book cargo only with trucking companies with a Port-approved concession (check at www.polb.com/concessionlog) Make sure trucks used to move your cargo are registered in DTR

21 21 Next Clean Trucks milestones January 1, 2010: Prohibit entry to trucks with Model Year ’89-’93 engines, and MY ’94-’03 engines not retrofitted January 1, 2012: Prohibit entry to any truck that does not meet 2007 EPA engine emission standards
