Famous names: Willdenow, Humboldt, Schweinfurth, Eichler, Urban, Engler … 1822: Foundation of Berlin University, since then garden directors are at the same time professors of botany around 1900: relocation of the garden (including herbarium and museum) to Dahlem Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem Carl Ludwig Willdenow (1765 – 1812) 300 years of scientific tradition: Adolf Engler (1844-1930)

Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem A central unit of the Freie Universität with special tasks: Document plant diversity (in nature and in collections) Collect plant diversity Conserve plant diversity (ex situ) Exhibit the collections and educate about plant diversity Carry out research on plant diversity (according to the BGBM transfer act & the International Council of Museums‘ guidelines)
