1 BROADCAST JOURNALISM AND MASS MEDIA CAREERS SUMMATIVE PROJECT By Christina Vines

2 Anderson Cooper (TV Reporter) ◦ Anderson Cooper is a famous American journalist currently working as an anchor of the CNN news show Anderson Cooper 360. ◦ Although having no formal journalistic education, he is a political science major graduating from Yale University. He also has interned at the CIA ( Central Intelligence Agency) as well he is the son of the famous Gloria Vanderbilt. In 1995 he became correspondent for ABC News and eventually rose to the position of Co-anchor on World News Now. ◦ Anderson Cooper has covered and earned awards for the remarkable stories he’s covered such as earning a Peabody Award for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina, an Emmy Award for the Coverage of Princess Diana’s funeral, a National Order of Honour and Merit for reporting on the 2012 Haiti earthquake, and many more.

3 Elvis Duran( DJ/Disc Jockey) ◦ Elvis Duran is a famous DJ and host of Elvis Duran and the Morning show in New York on Z100 and as well in syndication on many Radio Networks. ◦ Elvis Duran has been working in the radio career for around 30 years and has been both a host and program director at various radio stations such as Philadelphia’s WIOQ, Austin's KBTS, Atlanta Z-93, and Houston’s KRBE. Not only does he have a successful radio show but in 2007 he launched his own company called the Elvis Duran Group (EDG) that focuses on creating content for radio, television, internet, theater, etc. ◦ Elvis Duran and The Morning Show has consistently ranked #1 across multiple demographics and is the most listen in the top 20 morning shows in the US. Not only his is radio ranked #1 but he also has expanded his show with a national deal and is heard in more than 80 stations in addition to also airing on XM Satellite radio and iHeartRadio.com/ mobile app.

4 Walt Disney (Cartoonist) ◦ Walt Disney is one of the most famous cartoonist and a cultural icon throughout the world. He is also the co founder of The Walt Disney Company. ◦ Walt started by doing a company called “Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists” but it didn’t last. Later on he started working at Laugh-O-Gram studio where his cartoons became a hit in the Kansas City area, and through the success he gained there he was able to get his own studio also called Laugh-O-Gram but didn’t last long and that is when he decided to move to Hollywood, California. In California his brother and him set up a cartoon studio where it was the beginning of the Disney Brother’s Studio. ◦ Walt Disney is mainly known for his popular cartoons such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. Through his talents he became a cultural Icon. Animated many classic movies such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland and so on. He eventually opened a Theme Park for kids called Disneyland, and before his death commenced making Disney World and Epcot. All of the theme parks were based on his animated cartoons.

5 Anna Wintour ( Editor-in-Chief) ◦ Anna Wintour is the English editor-in-chief of American Vogue since 1988. She is an important figure in the fashion world and wide praised for her works. ◦ Anna Wintour left London to pursue her dream of wanting to edit Vogue, She quit her job at Harper’s Bazaar UK and moved to New York and worked at Fashion magazines slowly rising to the top. Later on she became Chief editor of Conde Nast publication, she revamped the magazine improving it but later on in 1988 she became editor-in-chief of Vogue and moved back to New York. ◦ Anna Wintour is mostly known for her work at American Vogue and as an incredibly important fashion figure. She completely revamped and made Vogue magazine to what it is today. She also ended the supermodel era and began showing celebrities rather than models on the Vogue covers.

6 Chris Van Allburg( Artist Illustrator) ◦ Chris Van Allsburg is a famous American author and illustrator of various popular children books. He mainly known for his picture book illustrations ◦ Van Allsburg attended the College of Architecture and Design at the University Of Michigan where he majored in sculpture, and later on got a Master’s degree in sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design. Although he originally majored in sculpture her ended up making illustrations for children's books. The first book that he wrote and illustrated was the Garden of Abdul Gasazi in 1979. He has written and illustrated about 20 books and as well has had his art featured on the covers of books. ◦ Chris Van Allsburg is widely known for his popular children’s books that he has booth illustrated and written such as The Polar Express and Jumanji which both have won Caldecott Medals, and also were later on adapted to successful films. He also has written and illustrated other famous books such as The Garden of Abdul Gasazi and Zathura.
