“God is light…” God gave light to all the peoples on earth… Romanian personalities have tried in an original way to shed light on an art of great originality.

When we say ROMANIA we say the names of its people.... Some of its most representative people are:

Nothing was more important than art to him. Through art he expressed his deep love for nature, for its splendours and mysteries, but mostly his love for his country and its people. In art he showed his love for goodness, truth and beauty. Romanian sculptor with overwhelming contributions to the renewal of the language in plastic arts and to the contemporary sculpture. Romanian painter and graphic artist, interpreter of the ‘lush colorful sorrows’ and of the genuine feelings of smoldering rebellion and long lasting resignation.

They built a bridge to FRANCE and the outcome of their work can be admired by you all: the BULGARIAN, the CYPRIOT, the FINNISH, the ITALIN, the POLISH, THE PORTUGUESE, the SPANISH and the TURKISH people.

And thus the art of my country is the art of your country since any creator has two countries: the country he was born in, where his talent comes from, where he finds food for his soul and the country that enjoys his art.

Grigorescu’s most characteristic feature of artistic expression is light, and the means of expressing light is the presence of white in the chromatic structure of his paintings. “Nicolae Grigorescu is Romanian with all his heart and throughout his work… His friendship with French artists failed to tear him away from his meditation upon his country. He is Romanian through feeling, through his gentle lyricism, through the affection he puts into his paintings, through the choice of his motifs of a melancholic vastness or of a dreamlike intimacy, through what he has tender and spiritual in his manner“. Henri Facillon

The house, the well, the tree – both a protector and a friend - all with a touch of melancholy and meditation…

All his paintings render the natural beauty submissive to the movement of light, natural beauty which turns before our eyes into a reality where the shapes at a human scale are overshadowed by shapes at an infinite scale.

Brancusi took the light of his native land with him, on the French territory, and tried to send it to the heights in an original way, by building the column of the infinite. Constantin Brancusi used to call it ‘a project for a column, which, on a larger scale, could support the vault of heaven’ All the peoples on earth can rediscover their ideals in it. It consists of an endless succession of identical units (pyramidal frustums joined on the larger base) with a half- unit at the top. The sculpture was ranked among the the most important works of art of the 20 th century together with works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Andy Warhol, according to a survey conducted online by the French publication Le Figaro in May 2010.

it is a monumental sculpture and it is part of The Sculptural Ensemble in Târgu Jiu, ensemble which also comprises The Gate of the Kiss and The Table of Silence.

The purity of nature is the distinctive mark of Grigorescu’s paintings The purity of life, THE NATIVE FRAILTY OF HUMAN BEINGS is the mark of Tonitza’s works.

These expressive big round eyes are the unmistakable mark of his style, a unique poetic style in the Romanian plastic arts. Smile does not show on these faces. The lips are sealed in mysterious silence.

In Tonitza’s work, the theme of childhood has gained the status of a symbol.

The small child laughs: “It’s Play my wisdom and my love". The young man sings: “It’s Love my play and wisdom". The old man keeps silent: “It’s Wisdom that’s my love and play". Three Faces Lucian Blaga

“Childhood is the world of miracle and wonder; as if creation rose, bathed in the light, out of the darkness, utterly new and fresh and astonishing.” EUGEN IONESCO

“Tonitza’s eyes” - big, round and expressive - are contemplating us today with nostalgic innocence and bitter melancholy.

“When we cease to be children we are already dead.” Constantin Brancuşi

, “ Knowing how to draw is skill, Knowing how to express emotions – is art!” ( N.Tonitza)

FLOWERS AND CHILDREN – PERFECT SERENE HARMONY FILLED WITH REFINEMENT AND ELEGANCE “ Mother and Child” “Portrait of a Young Girl” “ Katiusa”

THE INFINITE BELONGS TO US ALL. THE LINE WHICH SEPARATES THE SKY AND THE EARTH IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN BE CONSIDERED FRONTIER FOR THE SPIRIT. HUMAN BEINGS CAN FEEL LOST IN THE IMMENSITY OF THE INFINITE, IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR NATIONALITY …BULGARIAN, CYPRIOT, FINNISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN, POLISH, PORTUGUESE, SPANISH, TURKISH, ROMANIAN...

SOME OF THEM MIGHT FOLLOW IN THEIR PREDECESSORS’ FOOTSTEPS...

IF there are only a few people who know that the Emperor Napoleon III bought the painting “Flowers in a vase” by Nicolae Grigorescu WE OFFER IT TO YOU... And we are looking forward to your visit in our country!
