2. The Land of Southeast Asia Region is divided: mainland + islands Mainland areas: –Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Very mountainous. Island Areas: –Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

3. Indonesia = largest island Singapore = smallest Malaysia lies partly on mainland, and partly on island of Borneo. The Philippines is a country made up of 7,000 islands.

4. Climate and Vegetation Many parts of this region receive monsoon rains in the summer + winter. Monsoons are seasonal wind and torrential rain. Most of island Southeast Asia has a tropical wet climate that supports the second largest tropical rainforest.

5. Using the Land and Resources of Southeast Asia Subsistence farmers = only enough for their needs. Commercial Farming = for sale locally + worldwide.

6. Crops include –Coffee –Tea –Sugar –Soybeans –Rice –Fruit –Rubber –Rice - food crop + cash crop

7. Rainforest Resources Covered in rainforest that are bio- diverse. Rain forests are a source of: –Lumber –Medicines –chemicals Deforestation is a problem = 90%.

8. Bamboo as a Resource Bamboo: –Housing –Pipes –Rope –bridges.

9. Mineral Resources Exports of oil + gas are major sources of revenue (money).
