UNHCR, embassy or NGO referral or AOR through resettlement agency Refugee Admissions Process RSC conducts prescreening interview Approved applicants go through multiple security checks Immigration (DHS) interview Approved applicants receive a medical screening National resettlement agency completes verification of placement (VOP) with local field office The refugee case is allocated to a resettlement agency by the Refugee Processing Center National resettlement agency assures case Approved applicants who successfully complete all screenings are scheduled for departure to US Approved applicants receive cultural orientation

Core Services Sponsorship Pre-arrival resettlement planning, including placement Reception on arrival Basic needs support (including housing, furnishings, food, and clothing) for at least 30 days Community orientation Assistance with access to cash, health, employment, education, and other services as needed Development and implementation of an initial resettlement plan for each refugee 30-90 days

18 From Harm to Home | Rescue.org After 1 year refugees can apply for a “green card” which gives them permanent residency in the U.S. After 5 years, refugees can take a test to gain permanent citizenship in the United States. The IRC in Boise’s own Shatha becoming a US citizen! Proud US Citizens
