5. Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and prevent or mitigate harm to victims. Active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, individuals should be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.

8.  All situations will be DYNAMIC- decisions will be based on conditions where YOU are – There is no one answer  Plan ahead based on where you are: exits, shelter areas  The shooter will not stop until his objectives have been met, unless engaged by law enforcement  Consider options when you are outside your work space

9.  Consider the risk of exposure created by opening the door  Attempts to rescue people should only be made if that can be done without further endangering the persons inside a secured area  Consider what side of the door are you on  The shooter may bang on the door and yell for help to entice you to open the door

12.  Seek a find a place of concealment  Lock, Block, Silence  When hiding turn out lights  Silence your ringer and vibration mode on your cell phone as that can give away your position.

13.  As a last resort  Together or alone  Act with aggression  Use improvised weapons and fight

14.  Locate, Isolate and Stop the Shooter  Treat and Evacuate the Injured  Establish Containment  Safety Sweep  Complete Evacuation

16.  Become familiar with shelter in place locations within your office  Think about where you would shelter in place if you are in other parts of the Courthouse when activation occurs  Don’t forget to assist the public if possible
