DAILY LIFE Men in ancient Rome voted, worked jobs, and made decisions. Women took care of the house. Children went to school or helped their parents. Poor people were called Plebians. Rich people were called Patricians.

Government Rome was ruled by emperors. A famous one was Augustus. But before there were emperors, the government was a republic, like ours.

Architecture Arches and aqueducts were famous architecture in ancient Rome. Aqueducts were for irrigating their farms. Sometimes half-circle shapes, called arches, decorated them. A famous building is the Colosseum.

Agriculture Rich Romans had farms and houses in the country. The land was hilly and had stones in it. Romans grew olives, wheat, grapes, and barley.

Geography Rome is the capital city of Italy. In ancient times, it was the capital city of the Roman Empire. At its highest point, it was huge! Then, it covered parts of Spain, France, and Egypt.

Religion Romans worshipped many gods and goddesses. A few were: Jupiter, Juno, Phoebus, Venus, and Minerva. They were based on Greek gods. Also, when the emperor Augustus died, he was made a god.
