2 Where are we? The M.S. Shook Student Health Services is located on the second floor of the Miles Annas Student Support Building which is also home to the ASU post office, ASU Counseling Center, and the Wellness Center. Click for Next Slide

3 When you first enter the Miles Annas building and follow the signs to the M.S. Shook Student Health Services Main Entrance. At the top of the stairs enter through the door on the left, this is our main entrance. Also located on this floor are the M.S. 4 Hours of Operation and Other Important Information M.S. Shook Student Health Services is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. On Wednesdays, Student Health Services is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The After Hours Clinic is open: Monday ~ Friday 4:00 pm ~ 6:00 pm Saturdays 10:00 am ~ 2:00 pm Sundays 2:00 pm ~ 6:00 pm Should you have an emergency occur after hours you should dial 911. For non-emergencies call: Student Health Services at (828) 262-3100 to speak with a nurse on the phone. Click for Next Slide

5 Where do I go once I enter Student Health Services? The first area that you will encounter in Student Health Services will be the front desk. This is where you will check in for an appointment, schedule a walk- in appointment, or other services provided by Student Health. You are required to have proper identification – this means you must present your ASU ID (AppCard) before we are able to treat you at Student Health Services. Click for Next Slide

6 Click for Next Slide The front desk staff will retrieve your current health information. If you are a new student they will retrieve your immunization records and scan these forms into the computer system. If you are a returning student, they will simply check you in on the computer. You will then proceed to the waiting area to wait for a nurse to call your name for your appointment.

7 Should I schedule an appointment or walk-in? Due to the large number of students that are treated here at Student Health Services, when you come in as a walk-in, there is usually a wait to see a clinician. Appointments can be made by visiting the Student Health Services Appointment Secretary or by calling: Monday ~ Friday 8:00 am ~ 11:30 am 1:00 pm ~ 3:30 pm Click for Next Slide

8 What next? Whether you have a scheduled appointment or are just a walk-in, when the nurse calls you back they will take your vital signs and record the reason for your visit. They will provide services and/or treatment, make an appointment or arrange for you to be seen by a clinician. Click for Next Slide

9 Services Offered Here at the M.S. Shook Student Health Services there are a variety of services that are offered:  Allergy/Immunization Services  Travel Services  After Hours Care 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm & weekends (fall & spring)  Women’s Clinic 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm (fall & spring)  X-ray  Laboratory Services  Injury Clinic  Pharmacy Services Click for Next Slide

10 Allergy & Immunization Services Health Services is able to provide students with allergy services if needed. For more information about this service please contact the Student Health Services Allergy Nurse Immunizations available at Student Health Services: TTetanus MMMR MMeningitis GGardasil (HPV) HHepatitis A HHepatitis B PPPD (tuberculosis) FFlu CChicken Pox (order only) TTyphoid Other injections such as: DDepo-Provera AAny other needs contact Allergy/Immunization Nurse or schedule a clinician appointment *Some of the immunizations listed above are given at no charge. 11 Travel Services Any student that wishes to receive travel services must make an appointment with the travel nurse. The travel nurse will then have an in-depth consultation with you to discuss the area that you will be travelling to and also to discuss any immunizations or medications you may need in order to remain healthy while traveling. 12 After Hours Clinic Student Health Services After Hours Clinic is open: (Fall – Spring Semesters) Monday – Friday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Saturdays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Sundays from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Click for Next Slide

13 Women’s Clinic The Student Health Services Women’s Clinic is open from 2:30 pm ~ 6:00 pm Monday ~ Thursday by appointment only. Before 4:00 pm check-in at the main desk. After 4:00 pm check-in at the after hours side of Student Health Services PAP exams to female students for a fee of $30.00 Please call (828) 262-6577 for questions or to schedule an appointment. 14 Radiology If the Student brings in an order from an outside MD or if our clinicians feel one is warranted may have x- rays done the same day. Click for Next Slide The x-rays must be read by a radiologist at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. There is a charge for the radiologist to read the film

15 Laboratory Please call the lab at (828) 262-6956 for more information and for fees. Click for Next Slide Student Health Services is able to provide many laboratory services for students.

16 Injury Clinic The clinic is located next to the pharmacy on the after hours side of the building. Students need to simply schedule an appointment or come in for a walk-in visit to be established with the athletic trainer in order to use the services. Click for Next Slide The Injury Clinic provides therapy for students who have sports related or other injuries requiring therapy.

17 Pharmacy The pharmacy is located in the after hours area of Student Health Services Click for Next Slide The pharmacy has a limited formulary and is unable to fill all prescriptions. There is a nominal charge for most items. Pharmacy hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Wednesday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
