3 The Journey  Start as a Freshmen  Continue as a Sophomore  Prepare for college/career as a Junior  Graduate as a Senior  4 years to earn 21 credits or more  21credits/4years=5.25 credits per year

4 Graduation Requirements  English- 4 credits  Math- 4 credits  Science- 3 credits, including Physical Science and Biology  Social Studies- 3 credits, including American History, World Studies, and Government  Health- ½ credit  P.E.- ½ credit (2 classes)  Fine Arts – 1 credit  Life Planning- ½ credit  Electives- 4.5 credits  Meet Testing or Alternative Requirements for receiving a diploma MINIMUM 21 CREDITS TOTAL Pg. 3 Curr. 5 Testing Requirements  All students will take end of course exams in the following courses:  Algebra I, Geometry, or Integrated Math I,II  Physical Science,  American History, American Government,  English I, English II

6 Alternative Paths for a High School Diploma  And meet one of the following three:  Earn a cumulative passing score on seven end-of-year course exams. Students must accumulate a minimum of 18 points from scores on their end-of-course exams to become eligible for a diploma.  Earn a “remediation free” score on a nationally recognized college admission exam such as ACT or SAT. The state of Ohio will pay for all Class of 2018 – 11 th grade students to take the exam free of charge.  Earn a State Board of Education-approved, industry-recognized credential or a state-issued license for practice in a career and achieve a score that demonstrates workforce readiness and employability on a job skills assessment  Resource: education.oh.gov

8 General 9 th Grade Elective Classes  Agriculture  Art  English Electives  Family & Consumer Sciences  Tech Industrial Studies  Music Electives  Science Electives  Social Studies Electives  Computer Basics

9 P.E. Waiver  Students who have completed one full season of participation in an OHSAA sanctioned sport or by completing one semester of Marching Band at River Valley High School will have.25 P.E. credit waived on their transcript.

12 College Prep Students (to prepare to attend a 4 year college/university) MINIMUM Core Classes:  English- 4 credits  Math- 4 credits (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Algebra III/Trig.) Many colleges including OSU want to see Alg. III/Trig. & Pre- Calculus  Science- 3 credits (Including Biology and Chemistry)  Social Studies- 3 credits  Foreign Language- 2 credits (many schools prefer 3)  Keyboarding and Computer Skills  Fine Arts- 1 credit College admissions requirements vary. You should check individual schools for their requirements!

14 Career Technical Students There are a wide variety of two-year programs at Tri-Rivers Career Center, starting the junior year.

15 Schedule Changes  All schedule changes MUST be requested in writing by August 1 st.  Any request after June 1st must be mailed.  After August 1 st - –a student WILL NOT be allowed to change his/her schedule unless the request complies with board policy. See school handbook or curriculum guide for details.

16 Registration Deadline  All forms must be turned in to the RVMS guidance office by  All forms turned in after the deadline will be scheduled last. Tuesday, March 10th

17 Then what happens after I turn in my paperwork on March 10 th ?  The student’s course requests are inputted into PowerSchool.  The computer will create each student’s schedule.  8 th graders will receive their high school schedule before the end of the year.
