FIRST FIRST organization is a company dedicated to getting kids involved and excited about robotics and engineering. Their motto is “ For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. First has created three main organizations to reach their goal, they are: FLL, FTC, and FRC. FTC is part of FIRST Organization. This year, we are participating in FTC. 3

FLL TO FTC For the past 3 years we have participated in FLL, which is mostly for elementary school and only uses Lego bricks. This year we are participating in FTC, which is for middle and high school and mostly uses Matrix or Tetrix metal pieces and a Lego NXT brain. You can also use raw materials to make gears or anything else that’s not included. In FLL, the robot is completely autonomous for the whole round, while with FTC the robot is autonomous for only 30 seconds and then the remaining 2.5 minutes the robot is operated by remote control. 4

TEAM HISTORY In 2011, we started as a 9 member team called the Awesome Androids. In 2012, we became a team of 10 when another friend joined the team. Last year we had 10 team members as well. This year, 4 of our team members have left the team, bringing our total down to 6. Our team members are Aayush, Danny, Eli, Josh, Lucas, and Will. In 2012, our team was invited to go to the Swedish Embassy and meet with a Swedish FLL team. This was a once in a lifetime experience and we got to collaborate with a team outside of the USA. That year, we made it to the state competition and were also featured in NASA TV. In the past year, we were youth ambassadors to the Children’s Science Center, and helped with children science activities at science events 5

GOALS Our goals include: To learn Robot C To attend the opening ceremony To be competitive To learn about programming and engineering 6

BENEFIT OF SPONSORING US There are many benefits you will receive if you decide to sponsor our team. One benefit is free advertisement on our shirts and our merchandise. Helping young people learn more about STEM Doing something good for the community You will be the first ones we go to if we want a job in government space and intelligence surveillance reconnaissance. 7
8
HOW A SPONSOR CAN HELP US One way a sponsor could help would be to provide raw materials including wood and metal pieces. Another way a sponsor could help would be to donate money to help us pay for the financial aspects of participating in FTC. In FLL, the overall cost for everything we needed was around $1,000, while in FTC the average overall cost is around $4,000. 8
9
FTC BUDGET Our proposed budget is about $4,000. This generous amount will pay for most of our major expenses. These expenses include the Robot C program, registration, a Samantha Wi-Fi module, the Tetrix robot kit, travel, team merchandise, additional parts, and the Nova Labs membership cost. 9
10
FTC BUDGET TABLE Robot C $79 North America Registration$275 Samantha Wi-Fi Module$85 Tetrix Kit$649 Travel$650* Team Merchandise $500 Additional Parts $1,000 Nova labs membership $400** Total $3,638 *Travel cost is an estimate based on both rates at JMU if we make it to states, because it is a potential site for the state competition, and the cost for travelling to Richmond for the opening ceremony. **Nova Labs membership is $100 per month of full membership, except for the first 2 months of associate membership, which are $50 each. We estimated we would need 5 months of membership. 10

CORE VALUES AND MISSION STATEMENT Our core values are: We are a team. We will share our experiences with the community and raise awareness of FIRST. We will compete utilizing Gracious Professionalism. We create an Engineering Notebook, and it will document our progress and journey through the season. We will have fun! Our mission statement is: We strive to learn and gain knowledge while having fun as a team. We try our hardest, but we still exhibit our core values in everything we do. We are the TechnoCookies! 11
12
SUMMER PLANS Our plans for the summer are to meet every other week at a team member’s house or Nova labs. We plan to build the robot at Nova labs. Our goals are to examine the playing field and make strategies for programming. A few of our team members have already decided to take a robot C class over the Summer. Other members will get familiar with robot c programing by using internet classes. We will also be meeting with our mentor, Mr. Arndt, who works at IAI. 12

RISKS We have many risks in FTC. One example is using the Tetrix robot instead of the Matrix robot. The Tetrix robot kit is more expensive, so we could spend a lot of money on it. However, the Tetrix kit is a lot stronger than the Matrix robot. The motors are more powerful, and the metal is stronger. This may help our robot to compete faster and survive a fall. Another risk is that we will be using the machinery at Nova Labs. None of us have used these machines before, and we could get injured. On the other hand, no one on our team has the machines that we might need. 13
14
RISKS CONTINUED Also, our coaches have decided to let us take charge of the meeting. Instead of having our coaches schedule meetings and make a budget, we now have to. If we do not all step up and handle our new responsibilities, we could be in deep trouble. Finally, we have chosen to move up to FTC from FLL. This is a new field for us and we do not know everything about FTC. There may be many risks that we do not yet know of, or unexpected fees. 14
