Backup and Restore on the ALSMS Server Configuration Example Alcatel-Lucent Security Products Configuration Example Series

As with any system it’s a good idea to back things up regularly and before making any major changes. The ALSMS by default backs up the configuration information, Database and all other pertinent information automatically at 2:00 AM each day. There are seven folders, one for each day of the week. After a week of backups the first folder will be reused. The time of the automatic backups can be modified and additional backups can be configured. You also have the option to do a manual backup at any time. In this module we will do a manual backup and restore. Back up and Restore on the ALSMS

If you want to modify the configuration of the automatic backups go to Start>All Programs>Lucent Security Management Server>Utilities>ALSMS Schedule Editor. Click the “+” button to set up another automatic backup time. Back up and Restore on the ALSMS

Let’s do a manual backup on our ALSMS now. First step is to open Windows Explorer and create a new folder called “ALSMS_backup” Next open a Command Prompt window from Start>Run>CMD. Change your directory to the install directory of the ALSMS by typing: cd \users\isms\lmf Back up and Restore on the ALSMS

Type local\bin\backup c:\data\ALSMS_backup. This should be the directory where you created the folder ALSMS_backup. Your screen should look like the one below. Back up and Restore on the ALSMS

To restore the database to an ALSMS server is a very similar, one command process from the command prompt. First however you need to stop the ALSMS Services. Click on the following Start>All Programs>Lucent Security Management Server>Stop Services. Once your services are stopped open up your command prompt again Start>Run>CMD Back up and Restore on the ALSMS

Type cd \users\isms\lmf to get back to the ALSMS installation root directory. Type local\bin\restore c:\data\ALSMS_backup. This should be the folder where you saved the backup. You will be asked to “hit” Enter. Back up and Restore on the ALSMS

You will see an ALSMS installation screen. Fill in your login and password (same as before). You will then see that the installation is complete and be asked to restart the ALSMS services.
