2. ❏ Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on November 14th, 1908. ❏ Dropped out of school around the age of 14 ❏ Returned to finish high school in 1928. ❏ Received his law diploma from Marquette University. Early Life

3. Early career ❏ He first started out in the Democratic Party, but soon switched for being completely overlooked. After he switched to the Republican Party he had the idea of being the circuit court judge.

4. Early career ❏ McCarthy won the election, and several years after he had been elected he quit

5. Early career ❏ When McCarthy returned from war he decided to run for senate seat of Wisconsin.

6. The “List” ❏ McCarthy soon would claim that he had a list of two hundred and five people, who were undercover communists

7. Run for the Senate ❏ McCarty’s opponent La Follette was criticized for not enlisting in the military for not going into the war

8. Accusations ❏ There were two people that were soon very publicly known because of McCarthy, Owen Lattimore and Drew Pearson. These two men were the most publicly known because McCarthy made it a huge epidemic through the media.

9. Downfall ❏ Senator McCarthy’s downfall began in 1953

10. Downfall ❏ This all caused a chain reaction of things to happen to McCarthy. An investigation was started to investigate Senator McCarthy and his involvement with the Pepsi- Cola Company. Senator McCarthy was accused of taking bribes from the Pepsi-Cola Company, but no one ever knew what for.

11. Desperation ❏ To try to save his spot as a senator, McCarthy went to a Catholic priest, and the priest's name was Edmund Walsh. Walsh came up with the idea that McCarthy should begin a campaign against communists working inside of the Democratic Party administration. McCarthy’s attempts were pointless.

12. Death ❏ Joseph McCarthy died in 1957 of cirrhosis of the liver, which comes from very heavy drinking.

13. Conclusion Joseph McCarthy was a republican senator, who used the fear of communist spies in the government to gain power, which he then used against his opponents and critics.
