Tips on How to Read/Use a Map 1.Determine what type of map it is so you know what it is showing 2.Find the compass rose to determine direction and possibly location 3.Use context clues (title, compass, features of map) to determine what region is portrayed 4.Look at the key to determine scale and the symbols for features 5.Use scale key if you need to determine distance 6.Use latitude and longitude if you need to determine absolute location 7.Be observant
