3 WHAT COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE VITAL IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE AUDIENCE IS RECEIVING THE MAIN MESSAGE OF THE PRESENTATION? THINK ABOUT IT

4 DELIVERING AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION Elements needed include:  Eye Contact  Voice Tone & Projection  Body Language

5 ENHANCING A PRESENTATION – VISUALS Visuals might include:  Poster  PowerPoint or Prezi  Props Use the 6 x 6 rule.  Maximum 6 words per line  Maximum 6 lines per slide

6 ENHANCING A PRESENTATION – ENGAGEMENT Audience engagement might include:  Fact Sheet  Samples Why is a personal follow-along with presentation highlights important for audience engagement?

7 DESIGNING A VISUAL Not all CRAP is crap!

8 C.R.A.P. Use this acronym to help make good print design an easy process! The four essential elements include: Contrast Repetition Alignment Proximity

9 CRAP FROM A TO B Example A Can you read this slide? Does the background image relate to the text? Example B Real photos help viewers capture the ‘feeling’ of the message. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Knowledge is good-get a mammogram today.

10 CONTRAST Refers to creating interest on the page with:  Color  Font Styles  Shapes  Images BOLD Go BOLD ! Use your knowledge of color to create contrast and set things apart.

11 Both examples contain the same information, but the second is more appealing because of the CONTRAST!

12 REPETITION Focuses on consistency; repeat one aspect of the design throughout the entire presentation or campaign  Font Scheme  Color Scheme  Alignment (left, center or right)  Headings  Images or Logos

13 Which design elements do you see repeated on this cereal box that give you a particular feeling about the brand or product?

14 ALIGNMENT Focuses on the unity of the entire document – consider headings, text and images visual connection Strong vertical or horizontal lines result from using consistent alignment, and it creates a visual connection with something else on the page.

15 Sometimes centered text can be difficult to focus on or read. Adding a graphic & shifting alignment changes the whole effect. Which do you prefer, and why?

16 PROXIMITY cohesive Encourages related items to be seen as one cohesive group, rather than random, unrelated elements. Proximity makes your message easier to follow and your design more visually appealing !
