Internal Task Internal Task ? How to take clever notes How to use quotation marks and footnotes Check out this website for more infothis website
10
Taking Clever Notes 1.Read a chunk of information and then summarise it in your own words without looking at the source. (Don’t translate it bit by bit.) Then go back to the source & make sure you’ve got it right. 2. If you must copy & paste from the web, set your research notes up in 3 columns like this: or like this: 3. If there’s a non-technical word you wouldn’t normally use, change it - use a thesaurus. SourceWeb infoIn my own words Web info + source In my own words Go to Using Quotesor See how Polly’s doing
11
Using Quotes 1.Don’t just string a whole lot of quotes together. Be sparing with them. 2. Put quotation marks (“ or ‘) around the bit of text you are quoting. That means at the start of the quote AND at the end of the quote. 3. If you are doing your work on computer, Word has an easy footnoting tool: with your cursor/mouse at the end of the quote click on References from the top tool bar then click on Insert Footnote a little number pops up next to the quote and a line turns up at the bottom of the page now just type the source under the little line. If it’s a book type it like this: 1 Sarah Whitfield: Fauvism, Thames & Hudson, London, 1991 pg 81 See how Polly’s doing or Go to Taking Clever Notes
