Just a few questions students will challenge teachers with today…examining hate sites, sites that contradict teachers are readily available for students. What is the next step? Is this true? 7 Simulated Problem-Solving Environments The World Wide Web has brought the world to our fingertips. This provides authentic learning experiences, even in real time situations. 11 Digital Information Critiques Students need to learn how to judge what is fact and what is fiction as more and more manipulated images are available online Students need to learn how to judge what is fact and what is fiction as more and more manipulated images are available online CHRIS QUEK SAYS

Electronic Research More data is available and things are changed online every minute. Students need to know where they can go to find up to the minute and trustworthy information. 13 GIS and GPS Lessons Google Earth and GPS units can now become part of the education in every classroom. The amount of varied information available changes how the subject can be taught. 15 Social Studies Unit Lesson Plan

Sample of a Unit Lesson Plan (Landscapes of Canada) Technology Integration in Social Studies Date of Delivery : Beginning of last term...April Grade level : 4th grade Class size : 24 students Curriculum Area : Social Studies Subject Area: Unit 4: Exploring the Landscapes of Canada Class Duration : One hour...for three periods. Curriculum Area(s) Outcomes : Describe the physical landscape of Canada. *Describe which other region of Canada they would like to live in if they had to move from their region. List the features of the new region and explain why these are appealing to them.

Cross-Curriculum Link(s): Math: Graphing different ethnic groups, natural resources, Art: Students will draw topographical maps of chosen region. Technology Outcomes: 1. Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. 2. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. 3. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

Learning Objectives: Students will study different regions of Canada, looking at ethnic groups, natural resources and reasons for choosing an area. Such as, water, mountains, jobs, family... Based on their findings, they will then decide which region is attractive to them and why. Preparation: Book computer lab, have all relative information on a backup file in case internet is down that day. Introduce students to EDMODO site. Once students are registered, all sites for the regions will be available to them. Resources (traditional): 24 Atlases, colour crayons, paper Resources (technical): Computer lab, Excel (graphing), smart board.

Student Prior Learning (Subject Content): Students would have had discussions on the regions of Canada including ethnic diversity, land characteristics, cities, families living in different parts of Canada... Students would have been introduced to different graphs in math prior to this class. Student Prior Learning (Technical): Students would have been introduced to EDMODO and know how it works. They would have also had prior experience with excel. http://www.edmodo.com/hom

Special Considerations: *Students have their passwords. *All teachers are provided master list of passwords. *All students are paired 2 x 2 *Lab is ready to go. *Students who complete assignment before others will begin their Art project involving topographical map of region.
