INDIAN INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED (IIRDDA’s) Progressive Report
INTRODUCTION Indian Institute of Research and development for Differently Abled (iirdda), the name itself suggests that an institution specially designed for the differently abled children where they could be able to get a better education. 1. IIRDDA CAME INTO BEING: If we look closely, we will come to know that there is no scope for higher education for disabled students. As for instance, there were only school level and higher secondary level curriculum were available for blind and deaf students respectively. IIRDDA’s main aim was to provide a scope for the disable students by educating them as well as giving knowledge in technical fields so that they could be able to secure a place for themselves in the society and with that hope IIRDDA came into being

According to the needs of the differently abled students, the IIRDDA Board of Members alongwith G.U Director of Syllabus Committee, have decided to prepare a syllabus which will help the disable students in future to secure their goals. Bachelor of Disability Empowerment (BDE), a modular course has been specially design for the deaf and dumb students as well as commerce, arts & vocational course for the higher secondary students.

3. ADVERTISEMENT: An advertisement has been published on in The Assam Tribune 1. Interview of teaching as well as non-teaching staff. 2. Admission of the Students. 4. INTERVIEW AND ISSUE OF APPOINTMENT LETTERS: On 14th July 2015, the IIRDDA Board of Members have appointed Dr. Tapan Kumar Bharali as the Director of IIRDDA A walk-in Interview was conducted by Dr. Tapan Kumar Bharali on for the appointment of teaching as well as non- teaching staff at the premises of INDIANA GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS According to the decision of the Director of IIRRDA on the appointment letters of the teaching as well as non- teaching staff have been issued. At present we have 14 teachers and 5 non- teaching staffs On 8th August 2015, a meeting was conducted and during that meeting the appointment letters was handed over to the selected teaching as well as non-teaching staffs by the IIRDDA Board of Members.

5. ADMISSION OF STUDENTS AND COMMENCEMENT OF CLASSES: The notice for the new admission of the students for the session has been published on 24th July 2015 under the supervision of the Director of IIRDDA. The admission procedure has been started with the admission of 4 blind students and 5 deaf students. At present there are 4 blind and 10 deaf & dumb students During the meeting held on 8th August 2015, the IIRDDA Board of Members had decided to begin the classes from 10th August DISTRIBUTION OF STICK, HEARING MACHINES, AND COAT AMONG THE STUDENTS FOR THEIR BENEFIT: On 3rd September 2015, Dr. Ramani Barman had distributed stick among the blind students for their use. In order to help the deaf & dumb students, Composite Regional Centre (CRC) has come forward and distributed the hearing machines amongst them on 13th September On the occasion of children’s day, i.e; on 14th November 2015, the IIRDDA Mahila Samitee has also taken necessary steps to help the disable students by distributing coats amongst them.

ORGANIZING WORKSHOP ON SIGN LANGUAGE HOLDING OF MEETINGS AND CONDUCTION OF TESTS: In order to communicate better with the deaf & dumb students and to have better understanding on sign language, a two days workshop was held on 14th, 15th September 2015 at INDIANA GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS premises, where respected Mr. Heramba Das and Mrs. Monika Devi were present alongwith other Chief Guests Meetings were held time to time in order to have a better communication between parents and teachers Sessional test are being conducted on every subjects from time to time. 7. PERFORMANCE BY DISABLED STUDENTS IN MEETINGS & SEMINARS: On 11th November the blind students sung a song and the deaf students had performed a dance number where they have been abled to display their hidden talent The students have attended a National Seminar on Disaster Management on at the premises of Guwahati Girls Polytechnic The students display their talents through various activities held at the college premise through Art Exhibition, Rangoli Making, Wall Decoration etc. during special occasions such as teachers day & children's day.

STUDENT UNION RULES AND REGULATION IIRDDA shall conduct elections for the appointment of the students to the student representative bodies, every year in the 2nd week of September. These elections may be conducted in the manner prescribed: There shall be no appeal to caste or communal feelings for securing votes. It should be a fair and peaceful election. Candidates shall be prohibited from indulging the activities, which are considered to be corrupt practices and offences such as bribing of voters etc. No candidate shall nor his/her supporters shall use deface or cause any destruction to any property of IIRDDA for any purpose whatsoever without the prior written permission of the authorities. No candidates are allowed to use the name or symbols of any other political party for campaigning. The candidate shall have attained the minimum percentage of attendance as prescribed by the institution or at least 75%. The institution shall initiate a system of student representation based on nomination. The selected candidates will be assigned their respective posts such as President, General secretary, Cultural secretary, Games secretary, Publishing secretary etc. in the general meeting. The Director is the sole decision maker. The important matters, regarding the students union body will have to be discussed with him before taking any decision. The candidates for the post of President & Secretary will be selected from degree level and candidates for remaining posts will be selected from the H. S. level. Each student as a primary objective should maintain order & discipline in the campus as well as during their educational tour outside the state. It is mandatory for the President & the General secretary to remain in uniform during their tour.
