9 EU Enlargement Basic facts Beneficiaries: Western Balkans and Iceland Overall costs: € 500.000.000 EU Contribution: € 50.000.000 (10%) Overall Objectives To support the socio-economic growth of the Western Balkans by implementing the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). The Project will contribute to strengthen the economies of the Western Balkans in a sustainable manner, prepare for sound recovery from the global economic crisis in the region, while protecting the environment. Project Purpose To put into practice the WBIF, in particular, to support the preparation and implementation of priority infrastructure investment projects and energy efficiency projects, financed by a combination of grants and loans and to provide the necessary means (financial and/or human) to the economic actors, i.e. financial institutions and businesses, to enable them to offer competitive products and services and to face challenges following the economic crisis.
