INTRODUCTION Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was, undoubtedly, one of the most superb speakers of his time. Here's some characteristics that made his speeches so memorable and how we can use him as a role model, in our public speaking endeavors. Whatever our interests and aspirations, the role models help us. They give us standards for judging our performance and progress, and challenge us to develop our skills beyond current limits.

MLK, JR. – EXAMPLES HOW HE CAPTIVATE THE AUDIENCE Martin Luther King, Jr.’s optimism throughout kept a positive audience. “Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.” In the quote, Dr. King is offering a message of anticipation for the future. He is saying to continue daily habits without getting upset when someone wrongs others. He never spites or encourages anything pessimistic. If his personal messages for the future didn’t captivate the audience, then his religious references did. He reveals aspects of happiness from the Bible. He knew that for some religion was the only thing left to hold on to. Religion brought a message of equality. With his optimism and hope he brought comfort to many. He used his excellent education and knowledge to compose his speech.

In his pivotal “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King Jr. observed that opponents of the civil rights movement were wondering, “When will you be satisfied?” King used that question as the springboard for listing what Negroes wanted in order to say they were satisfied: an end to police brutality, comfortable lodging in nice hotels and motels, permission to live in homes outside the ghetto, an unlimited right to vote, and getting with that the liberty and the happiness, will stand them as equal citizens.

MLK, JR. - CHARACTERISTICS AS A GOOD SPEAKER Of prime importance, King’s life was consistent with his rhetoric. King used vivid illustrations that business and professional leaders could relate to quite easily.

MLK, JR. - CHARACTERISTICS AS A GOOD SPEAKER Like a role model, he speak with stirring emotion, which emerge naturally from his genuinely intense belief in his message. King’s message sustained magnetism because his theme was consistent and unwavering.

CONCLUSION Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a good public speaker, because he really cared about the cause and knew about the facts. He wasn't just talking so he would be famous, he was doing it to help human kind. His words came from the heart, which makes people believe what he said, just because he believed it.
