Page 3 What is HMA A collaborative project started in Europe and Canada by the Ground Segment Coordination Body (GSCB) in 2005 with the objective to: Guarantee a seamless and harmonised access to heterogeneous EO datasets from multiple mission ground segments, including national missions and ESA missions. Standardise the ground segment interfaces of the satellite missions for easier access to EO data. Provide interoperability for coordinated data access enabling the interactions with services or Value Adders and EO Contributing Missions. HMA-S Final Presentation - 11/06/2014

Page 20 Main issues – Lessons Learned OGC Process –Dependency on external votes makes reaching quorum problematic… –Unpredictable timing (e.g. WPS 2.0, Task 3 CR Mgt process) TEAM Engine –Some specifications not suitable for TEAM engine approach testing and test configuration through Web Portal. Client/server configuration for order options, security keys etc. Project Process –Demonstrators with individual separate requirements specification and corresponding test procedures (and subject to individual acceptances) would have facilitated integration. –Difficulty to keep aligned schedule of individual tasks due to different OGC dependencies. HMA-S Final Presentation - 11/06/2014

Page 21HMA-S Final Presentation - 11/06/2014 Conclusion - Achievements Specifications (voted / expected): –2 / 4 OGC Implementation standards –4 / 5 OGC Best Practices –1 / 2 OGC Discussion Papers –2 OGC Pending documents. Compliance Tests –7 sets of ETS tests deployed on same engine/Portal. OpenSource Implementations –8 Open-source components. Page 23HMA-S Final Presentation - 11/06/2014 Conclusion Several new OGC SWG were created. All proposed specifications submitted to OGC and most already adopted. HMA-S provides corresponding reference implementations (open-source) and CITE ETS / CTL scripts. OpenSearch good example of standardisation in CEOS context through the OGC process Further reading: –http://www.esa.int/About_Us/ ESA_Publications/ESA_TM- 21_Heterogeneous_Missions_Accessibility

Page 24 Future work beyond HMA-S project Guidelines/handbook for « Resource Oriented Architecture » is needed, supported by one or two testbeds RESTful interfaces for all specifications (i.e. API) Exploit multi-media (HATEOAS - Hypermedia as the Engine of Application State) Work on SSO to be extended to full federated SSO architecture, test and pilot integration with openID/Oauth as well as definition of long term strategy, selection of relevant technologies and standards. Strategy and selection of technologies and standards on cybersecurity, authorisation and accounting to be defined accompanied by relevant testbeds Testbeds for the spin-in of standards like WAMI aiming at the integration of EO data with video streaming sources Strategy definition for Linked Data technologies and standards HMA-S Final Presentation - 11/06/2014
